Elena Kairyte (1988) is a movie maker from Lithuania, born to a film-maker father and a musician mother. She graduated from bachelor theatre studies at the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy in Vilnius, Lithuania, and from High Courses of Film Directors and Scriptwriters in Moscow, Russia, with
a major in feature film directing. Elena’s fields of work and interest are feature films, documentaries and photography, or rather a mix of all the above. This exact mix describes best Elena’s style in filmmaking.
Elena Kairyte is making a full-length documentary »dolce far niente« (sweet doing nothing) and the first steps in her research taking her to Chiusa/Klausen. Elena is documenting portraits of locals, which will then become a chapter in the movie. Since the concept is of Italian origin, Italy was chosen as the destination/location for the documentary considering that this country is a cradle of the »dolce far niente« lifestyle.
Elena is trying to evaluate whether people of Chiusa/Klausen are capable of enjoying the moment, or if they are rather constantly in need of something to do. What do their »dolce far niente« moments look like? Can a person self-actualize in doing nothing – or is it more of a dream, or/and an expression of simple laziness?
